Short History of FCGS

The idea to have a Tagalog Mass for Filipinos in Milano 3 was suggested by Don Fabio Giovenza while he was blessing a house where Ms. Emma Lopez was a domestic helper sometime in September 1991. Ms. Emma Lopez picked up the challenged, relayed the message to her compatriots in Milano 3, and contacted the Filipino Community of San Lorenzo (FCSL) in Milan for help.  FCSL, in the persons of Ms. Marina Bautista & Mr. Noel Dimaano, welcomed the idea of have a “daughter” community, a sort of extension of the FCSL, and helped organize the community of Milano 3. Like the mother community, the daughter community is also a worshipping community. FCGS began with a Tagalog Mass presided over by Fr. Ariston Sison on January 12, 1992.

Because of the good number of Mass attendees, it was decided that the Masses be held twice a month. At the beginning, there were english and tagalog Masses. Now there are only Tagalog Masses held on a weekly basis. What started out as a “daughter” community of FCSL turned out to be a “Sister” Community of FCSL called the Filipino Community of Gesù Salvatore (FCGS).

FCGS established its first Pastoral Council in June of 1992 having Mr. Mar Fuentebella as its President. The community was guided by the then Parish Priest don Franco Cecchin and the Spiritual adviser Fr. Emil Santos.

Like the Sister Community FCSL, FCGS is also a worshipping community. Thus the animation at community level revolves around the noontime celebration of the Sunday Mass in Tagalog. Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Commentators, Ushers, and Choir are adequately prepared to rener their respective ministry well.

Unlike FCSL, the FCGS is not only a Church-recognized community. It has gone a notch higher for it was registered as a juridical entity in the comune of Basiglio. Now FCGS serves also as an intermediary between the Filipino Community of Milano 3 and civil society (the comune of Basiglio and the Philippine Consulate General – Milano).
